Project Description:
The muralist, Hubert Massey, is a Flint native (raised in Beecher) who specializes in large-scale works. Massey earned his BFA from Grand Valley State University and the University of London-Slade Institute of Fine Art. His other work includes a 72-foot mural on canvas at the Athenaeum Hotel in Detroit, the terrazzo mosaic in the rotunda of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, two frescos at the Detroit Athletic Club and the recently installed mural at the Flint Institute of Arts. The project, funded by the Ruth Mott Foundation, supported the creation of five community murals, the restoration of an existing mural in Carriage Town at 615 Martin Luther King Avenue and the commission of a mural in a prominent downtown site.
