Project Description:
The University of Michigan-Flint recently completed the installation of a Patriots Grove on the campus. Trees selected for the Grove are from historically significant sites and events in the United States and arranged chronologically in the park area. The trees consist of a broad variety of species including Oak, Maple, Sycamore, Poplar, and others and include ornamental and monumental species suitable for growth in the region. The new walkway through the Grove, will include benches and tree markers to encourage relaxation along with historical education and reflection.
The Patriots Grove was planted on the east side of the William S. White building to create a beautiful park setting along the riverfront. The site for the Grove is part of the Campus Master Plan, and allows for future growth in the surrounding area. The Patriots Grove will create a traditional campus feel to the area between the Stevens Bridge and the William S. White building for students, faculty, staff, and visitors as they traverse the Riverfront Campus in downtown Flint.
