Berridge Townhouse & Lofts Project
421 Garland Street
Flint, MI 48502

Location:
East Street just west of M. L. King Avenue in downtown Flint.

Description:
Construction has begun on the conversion of the historic Berridge Hotel into a mixed-use development featuring 21 loft apartment units and two commercial tenant spaces on the ground floor. The project is being developed by the Genesee County Land Bank, LISC, Court Street Village Nonprofit, and the Carriage Town Historic Neighborhood Association. As part of the project the adjoining Tinlin Building will be converted into four apartments. The $6.2-million project is being financed through Federal and State Historical Tax Credits which require the loft apartments to be sold as condominium units after five years. Construction is expected to be complete in mid 2008.

The units will be part of a gated community with large floor plans, one- to three-bedroom units, and a central outdoor courtyard area.

The lofts are conveniently located between Kettering University, the University of Michigan-Flint, Hurley Medical Center and downtown Flint and are within walking distance to the Flint Cultural Center, home to The Whiting, Bower Theatre, Flint Institute of Arts, Flint Institute of Music, Sloan Museum, Buick Gallery & Research Center, Longway Planetarium and the Flint Public Library.

The Flint Farmers’ Market, located within walking distance of the Berridge Townhouse & Lofts, offers fresh produce, flowers, meats, and breads. In addition, River Bank Park designed by world-renowned architect Lawrence Halprin offers recreational opportunities for canoeing, bicycling, and jogging. The Soggy Bottom Bar, Torch Lounge, LOFT Bar, Good Bean’s Cafe, and The Lunch Studio are just a few of the growing entertainment opportunities in downtown Flint.
